What to do right now
If you can smell burning, switch off first
Go to your main switchboard and turn off the main switch if it is safe to reach. Then call us. A burning smell with no obvious cause is the one electrical fault that should not wait.
If a safety switch keeps tripping
Unplug everything on that circuit and try resetting it once. If it holds, plug things back one at a time to find the culprit. If it trips again with nothing plugged in, leave it off and call.
If the power is out completely
Check whether your neighbours have power too. If the whole street is out it is a network fault and SA Power Networks are already on it. If it is just you, that is us.
Do not open the switchboard
Pulling the cover off a live board is how people get hurt. Switch off at the main switch, leave the cover on, and let us look at it.

Common questions
Do you do emergency callouts on weekends?
Yes. We are open Saturday and Sunday, 8:00am to 4:00pm, as well as Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5:00pm. Urgent faults get priority over booked work.
How quickly can you get here?
It depends where you are and what is already booked, but urgent faults jump the queue. We will tell you honestly when we can be there rather than leaving you wondering.
My power is out. Is that an emergency?
Check whether your neighbours have power. If the whole street is out it is a network fault and SA Power Networks are already working on it. If it is only your place, give us a call.
What does an emergency callout cost?
You get a price before we start. If the fault turns out to be something minor we repair it on the spot at no extra cost, and if it is a bigger job we price that for you before we touch it.
Should I turn the power off myself?
If you can smell burning or see scorching, yes, switch off at the main switch on your switchboard if it is safe to reach. Do not take the switchboard cover off, and do not try to repair anything yourself.
